The Differences between CPAP and BiPAP Machines

Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) and Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP) machines help to treat respiratory diseases. A lot of people think they are the same but in fact they serve completely different purposes. BiPAP machines deliver two different levels of pressure: higher pressure when the user breaths in, and lower pressure when the user breaths out. CPAP machines only has one set level of air pressure at any one time.

Since you can adjust the two different levels of pressure on a BiPAP machine, the user does not have to exhale against the added pressure, which can be quite tiring. With CPAP machines, it takes more effort for the person to breath in and out. The BiPAP machine is a more recent development.

The main use for CPAP machines are for those with sleep apnoea or snoring problems; whereas BiPAP is used for those with disorders like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

I hope that this helps to clarify issues about these two different machines. Any questions please feel free to contact me :)
